Catharsis Project

Catharsis is the process of releasing repressed emotions which can only happen through a creative activity or experience (Cambridge dictionary) . In order to get to that state one must go through internal metamorphosis which will result in acceptance of one’s past. As the cleanse of the soul happens the body transforms as well. Spread your wings and fly in direction of light.
“When the butterfly takes wing, nothing of the caterpillar remains.”
― Alejandro Jodorowsky

Petrykivka painting (or simply “Petrykivka”) is a traditional Ukrainian decorative painting style, originating from the village of Petrykivka in Dnipropetrovsk oblast of Ukraine, where it was traditionally used to decorate house walls and everyday household items.

In 2012, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine recognized Petrykivka painting as a part of intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine, and it was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013.[1] Petrykivka painting has become a “brand” in Ukrainian popular culture, and a “Petrykivka” trademark belonging to the artisans of Petrykivka village has been created.

The main materials that we will be using for the structure will include metal, wood, Styrofoam, acrylic paint, LED lights, black lights and more. Below you can see the approximate list of items we will be ordering and using. It doesn’t include rentals of tools, etc.

We made the construction more stable and decreased the size from 16 ft to 11 ft tall.
